Kayaks
White-water Kayak – White water kayaks are shorter, lighter and much more maneuverable than any of the other types of kayak. White water kayaks are used primarily by advanced paddlers on fast moving and sometimes rocky rivers. White water kayaks are also the easiest to flip right-side-up of all the types of kayaks. Because of the sensitivity of these kayaks, they should not be used as a beginner kayak. White water kayaks can be bounced off rocks on turbulent rivers and even taken down waterfalls. Touring Kayak – Much longer and narrower than the other types of kayak, the touring kayak is perfect for moving smoothly along large bodies of water such as reservoirs or even the ocean. These can also be known as ocean kayaks. Touring kayaks are designed longer and narrower so they slice through the water with less effort so the paddler can travel farther without becoming as fatigued. Do not use a touring kayak if you are going to need responsiveness and maneuverability, because you could end up in jeopardy.

Recreation Kayak – If you are just looking to get away from the asphalt and get onto the water then a recreation kayak will do just fine. Recreation kayaks are great for just getting to the nearest body of water in your free time or for something fun and healthy to do while on vacation with the family. The recreation kayak is perfect for beginners, fishermen, or even guided tours of bodies of water because they are designed to be an all-around kayak. They are the easiest to get used to quickly and simple to handle. They also have a sufficient amount of storage space if you’d like to take a day trip.

Sit-on-top Kayak – Sit-on-top kayaks are great for just having fun. There is no need to worry if you flip the kayak, unless you can’t swim, because there is no cockpit. You won’t get stuck inside it and the kayak won’t get full of water. Sit-on-top kayaks are not very comfortable to use for extended periods of time, this is because they are not intended for such use and are not designed that way. Sit-on-top kayaks are also easier to flip because your center of gravity is not located inside the cockpit but on top of the kayak.

Inflatable Kayak - Inflatable kayaks are no longer cheap, disposable, or unreliable to say the least. Many people are beginning to choose these kayaks over other types of kayaks due to their efficiency. For a splendid article/description on inflatable kayaks, please click here.
